Precast U

Use the Precast Concrete U Girder form to specify the parameters for a precast concrete U girder section definition.

Section Name

When the Add New Property button is used: CSiBridge will suggest a default section name (FSEC1, FSEC2 and so forth). Change the name as required.

When the Modify/Show button is used: The name that appears in the Section Name item is the name of the section selected in the Properties area of the form before the Modify/Show button was clicked.

Set Section Dimensions Based on a Standard Section drop-down list. Choose a standard section (Caltrans of WSDOT) from this drop-down list. The selection made here affects the input in the balance of the form. Note that a schematic of the selected section appears in the grid area on the right side of the form.

Bn and Dn edit boxes. Use these edit boxes to specify the width and depth of the section, respectively. The locations of the various dimensions are illustrated on the Section Dimensions drawing.

Display Color The color that will be used to display the section on-screen in the model.

Click on the "Display Color" text or the small sample square of the color to bring up the Color form.

Select the desired new color on the Color form and click the OK button.

Use the Home > View menu > Set Display Options command and check the Sections check box in the View by Colors of: area of the form to display the section by the assigned color.

Material drop-down list. Use this drop-down list of previously defined material properties to specify the material for this section definition. Clicking the + (plus) symbol preceding this drop-down list will access the Define Materials form, which can be used to add a new material definition or modify an existing one.

Section Properties button. Click this button to display the Property Data form and view the frame section properties. The section properties are defaults and provided here for informational purposes only.

Set Time Dependent Properties button. Click this button to access the Time Dependent Properties form.

Set Modifiers button. Click this button to display the Frame Property/Stiffness Modification Factors form. Use this form to specify the desired modification factors. Note that modification factor can be assigned here as well as directly to line objects, as explained in Frame - Property Modifiers.

Section Notes Modify/Show Notes button. Click this button to access the Frame Section Property Notes form and add section notes to the model file.

Access the Precast Concrete U Girder form as follows:

Click the Components > Type > Frame Properties > New command to display the Add Frame Section Property form. (Click here for a list of alternative methods for displaying the Add Frame Section Property form.)
- Alternative 1: Click the Home > Bridge Wizard command; highlight Step 3.2 Frame Sections; click the Define/Show Frame Sections button to display the Frame Properties form.
- Alternative 2: Click the Components > Type > Frame Properties > Expand arrow command to display the Frame Properties form.
- Alternative 3: Select a frame object and click the Advanced > Assign > Frames > Frame Sections command, to access the Frame Properties form.
- Then do one of the following:
1. 1. 1. Click the Import New Property button to access the Import Frame Section Property form or the Add New Property button to display the Add Frame Section Property form.
      
      Highlight the name of a previously defined angle section in the Properties area/Find this Section list on the left side of the Frame Properties form and click the Modify/Show button to display the Add Frame Section Property form.
If the Import New Property button is used and a database containing the selected section type has already been accessed, a form listing the sections of that type in that database will appear; choose the sections to be imported from the list by highlighting them. Note that clicking the + (plus) symbol preceding the Materials drop-down list will access the Define Materials form, which can be used to add or modify the material definition associated with the selected section type.

If sections of the specified type are not included in the database, a form to select another database to be imported will appear; choose a database from the list. If the selected type of section is not included in that database, an error message will display. To switch to another database, see the Note below.

Note: When the Import New Property button is used, the {Type} Section form will include an Open File button; click that button to access a form listing the various section database files available. After choosing a database, a form listing the individual sections within the selected database will appear; choose the sections to be imported from the list and click the OK button to redisplay the {Type} Section form. If the selected type of section is not included in that database, an error message will display. Click the OK button on the error message to close it, and then click the Open File button on the {Type} Section form to redisplay the list of possible databases; choose another database. Repeat this process until a list of available sections of the required type is displayed.
Set the Frame Section Property Type drop-down list to Steel.
Click the Precast U button.
