Click the Layout > Lanes > New command to display the Bridge Lane Data form. Use this form to define lanes based on the bridge layout lines.
Lane Name edit box. Use the default name for the bridge lane, or enter a revised name in this edit box.
Coordinate System drop-down list. Use the drop-down list to select a coordinate system other than global if one has been defined (see Define Coordinate Systems/Grids for more information about defining a coordinate system).
Units drop-down. Use the displayed units or use this drop-down list to change the units for the form.
Maximum Lane Load Discretization Lengths
Along Lane edit box. Use the default or specify another value in this edit box to specify how/where the load will be distributed along the length of the lane.
Across Lane edit box. Use the default or specify another value in this edit box to specify how/where the load will be distributed across the lane.
Additional Lane Load Discretization Parameters Along Lane
Discretization Not Greater than 1/{value} of Span Length check box and value. Use this check box to specify that the load be discretized based on a fraction of the span length. Checking this check box ensures proportional discretization for every span in this definition. This can be helpful, for example, when multiple spans have been defined and the length of a span(s) is less than the length specified in the Land Load Discretization - Along Lane area of this form.
Discretization Not Greater than 1/{value} of Lane Length check box and value. Use this check box to specify that the load be discretized based on a fraction of the lane length. Checking this check box ensures proportional discretization for every lane in this definition. This can be helpful, for example, when multiple lanes have been defined and the length of a lane(s) is less than the length specified in the Land Load Discretization - Along Lane area of this form.
Note: The smallest value specified for lane load discretization and discretization based on fractional values of span or lane lengths is the controlling value for distributing the load on a span or lane.
Lane Data
Bridge Layout Line drop-down list. Any previously defined layout lines are listed in this drop-down list. Choose the layout line to be used in defining the bridge lane by clicking on it in the drop-down list.
Station edit box. Use this edit box to specify the length of the lane or lane segments by specifying station locations. This distance is measured from the beginning of the span in the currently specified Units.
Centerline Offset edit box. Use this edit box to specify any offset from the layout line for the lane or a lane segment as defined using the Station edit box.
Lane Width edit box. Use this edit box to specify, in the currently selected Units, the width of the lane or a lane segment as defined using the Station edit box.
Radius edit box. Use this box to specify, in the currently selected Units, the radius of the lane. Radius is used for centrifugal load calculations only. A positive radius curves to the right, a negative radius curves to the left. A radius of 0 means an infinite radius (i.e., straight). The curvature (1/radius) is linearly interpolated.
Add button. After a selection has been made in the Bridge Layout Line drop-down list and, if appropriate, values have been entered in the associated Station, Centerline Offset, and Lane Width edit boxes, click the Add button to add the lane definition to the model.
Insert button. Use this button to insert the selected Bridge Layout Line and values specified for the Station, Centerline Offset, and Lane Width edit boxes above the selected line.
Modify button. Highlight an existing entry and revise the selection made in the Bridge Layout Line drop-down list or the values specified in the Station, Centerline Offset, and Lane Width edit boxes; then click this button to make the change.
Delete button. Highlight an existing entry and click this button to delete the selected entry.
Move Lane button. Click this button to display the Move Lane form. Use the form to move the lane
Plan View (X-Y Projection) The changes made to the lane data will automatically display in this area. The data displayed depends on which of the Snap To options has been selected (Snap To Layout Line or Snap To Lane). Move the mouse pointer along the layout line or lane in the display area and note that the data in the Station, Bearing, Radius, Grade, X, Y and Z display boxes identifies the location of the mouse pointer along the layout line or lane.
Snap To Layout Line option. Snaps the cursor to the layout line when the cursor passes over the drawing in the Plan View area of the form.
Snap To Lane option. Snaps the cursor to the lane when the cursor passes over the drawing in the Plan View area of the form.
Objects Loaded By Lane
Program Determined option. When this option is chosen, CSiBridge will calculate the loading for the lane.
Group option and Group drop-down list. When the Group option is chosen, also select the Group Name from the drop-down list. The loading on the lane will be based on the objects included in the selected group.
Lane Edge Type options. Specify if the lane edge is interior or exterior on the Left Edge and Right Edge. Left and right are as viewed from the start of the bridge.
Display Color box. The Display Color box shows the color that will be used to display the lane. Click the Display Color box to display the Color form; click a new color to change the display color.
