Use the Deck Property Data form to specify a name for the deck property definition, the type of property, the geometry, the material, the unit weight and other parameters. ETABS has built-in default area object properties for DECK1, a metal deck. New definitions can be created, or this default property can be modified as required. The property definitions can be deleted if they are not currently assigned to area objects. However, at least one deck property definition must exist, even if it is never assigned to anything.
Property Name edit box. Use the suggested default or type a revised name in this edit box. Note that definition names must be unique.
Type options. Choose the type of deck. The type of deck controls which features are active in the other areas of the form.
Slab Material drop-down list. When the deck Type is Filled or Solid Slab, select a Slab Material property definition, which will be used in determining the deck shear stiffness (membrane stiffness).
Deck Material drop-down list. When the deck Type is Filled or Unfilled, select the name of the steel material property associated with the slab. The mass and weight per unit volume specified for the steel material are not used for the deck (unless the specified mass per unit volume is zero and the deck is unfilled). See the Deck Unit Weight bullet item for more information.
Modeling Type display box. For decks, membrane is the only option.
Modifiers (Currently Default) Modify/Show button. Click this button to access the Property/Stiffness Modification Factors form. Use that form to specify the stiffnesses, mass, and weight for the property definition.
Display Color box. Assign a color to the deck section. Click the box to access the Color form. Click on a color and the OK button to change the display color.
Property Notes Modify/Show button. Click this button to display the Notes form. The form can be used to add notes about deck properties to the model file. Type the notes directly into the large text box area
Property Data edit boxes. Use these edit boxes, when available, to specify the geometry of the slab and deck. Note the parenthetic initials with each option name. Those initials are used in the small schematic drawing on the form to indicate the location of the item on the deck.
Unfilled deck type (metal deck without concrete fill) -- For the Unfilled deck type, specify the Rib Depth (hr), Rib Width Top (wrt) and Bottom (wrb), Rib Spacing (sr), Deck Shear Thickness and Deck Unit Weight (see below).
Filled deck type (metal deck with concrete fill) -- For the Filled deck Type, specify the Slab Depth (tc) not including the height of the metal deck, the Rib Width Top (wrt) and Bottom (wrb), Rib Spacing (sr), and Deck Shear Thickness and Deck Unit Weight (see below) and the Shear Stud Diameter, Height (hs) after welding and Tensile Strength (Fu for the shear studs).
Solid slab deck type (solid concrete with no metal deck) -- For the Solid Slab deck Type, specify the Slab Depth (tc) not including the height of the metal deck, and the Shear Stud Diameter, Height (hs) after welding and Tensile Strength (Fu).
Property Data Definitions
tc |
= |
For type Filled: Height of the concrete fill over the top of the metal deck |
hr |
= |
For type Filled and Unfilled: Depth of the metal deck |
wrt |
= |
For type Filled and Unfilled: Width of the metal deck ribs at the top of the metal deck |
wrb |
= |
For type Filled and Unfilled: Width of the metal deck ribs at the bottom of the metal deck |
sr |
= |
For type Filled and Unfilled: The distance from the center of one down flute of the metal deck to the center of an adjacent down flute |
hs |
= |
For type Filled and Solid: The height of the shear studs after welding |
Fu |
= |
For type Filled and Solid: The tensile strength of the shear studs |
Deck Shear Thickness = the thickness of the deck used for calculating shear (membrane) stiffness when the deck type is unfilled
Deck Unit Weight = the unit weight of the deck in force/length2 units. This unit weight is included when determining the total self-weight of the floor system. When determining the self-mass of the floor system, the unit weight is converted to a unit mass and added to the mass specified for the material property specified for the deck material or slab material that is specified in the Material area of the form. If the deck is a filled deck and the mass per unit volume of the specified slab material is zero, the mass of the metal deck is also taken as zero. Similarly, if the deck is an unfilled deck and the mass per unit volume of the specified deck material is zero, the mass of the metal deck is also taken as zero.
Shear Stud Diameter = For type Filled and Solid: The diameter of the shear studs
