Use the Hinge Property Data form to specify the property name and the hinge type, and to access other forms that can be used to specify parameters for the property definition.
Hinge Property Name edit box. ETABS suggests sequential hinge property names (e.g., FH1, FH2 and so forth) in this edit box. Change the name if desired. Note the naming convention applied to program-generated definitions, which is described in "Program-Generated Hinge Properties".
Hinge Type options. Choose that the hinge property definition be Force Controlled (Brittle) or Deformation Controlled (Ductile). Then select a hinge type:
The Axial P, Shear V2, Shear V3, Torsion T, Moment M2 and Moment M3 frame hinge types are all uncoupled. They can exist in the same frame hinge property, but no interaction between them exists. Only the Shear V2 can exist in a wall hinge property.
The interacting P-M2-M3 frame hinge type (interacting P-M3 wall hinge type) is a coupled hinge property. It can exist with uncoupled Shear V2, Shear V3, and Torsion T hinge types, but not with uncoupled Axial P, Moment M2, or Moment M3 types.
Modify/Show for {Hinge Type} buttons. Click this button to access the Hinge Property Data for {Property Name} form to review the Steel or Concrete default definition or to complete the User Defined definition.
The forms that display when the Hinge Type is Deformation Controlled (Ductile) and Axial P, Shear V2, Shear V3, Torsion T, and Moment M2, and Moment M3 are described in the Hinge Property Data for Property Name Form - Deformation Controlled topic.
The forms that display when the Hinge Type is Deformation Controlled (Ductile) and interacting (P-M3, P-M2, M2-M3, P-M2-M3) are described in the Hinge Property Data for {Property Name} - Interacting {Hinge Type} topic.
The forms that display when the Hinge Type is Deformation Controlled (Ductile) and Fiber are described in the Hinge Property Data for {Name} - Fiber topic.
The forms that display when the Hinge Type is Force Controlled (Brittle) are described in the Hinge Property Data for Property Name Form - Force Controlled topic.
Access the Frame Hinge Property Data form as follows:
Click the Define menu > Section Properties > Frame/Wall Nonlinear Hinge command to access the Define Frame/Wall Hinge Properties form. Then do one of the following:
Click the Add New Property button. The Default For Added Hinges form, with Steel, Concrete, and User Defined options, will display. Choose an option as the basis for defining the new hinge property.
Highlight a previously defined property and click the Add Copy of Property or Modify/Show Property button.
