Assign auto select sections to selected beams. Designing with groups works only when auto select sections have been assigned to beams. Typically, assign the same auto select section to each beam to be used in a design group, although this is not absolutely necessary.
Define the design groups by selecting the beam elements and clicking the Assign menu > Assign to Groups command. Any beams in a design group not assigned an auto select section will be ignored for group design and will be designed individually.
Click the Design menu > {Steel Frame, Concrete Frame, Composite Beam, Steel Joist} Design > Select Design Group command to access the {Steel Frame, Concrete Frame, Composite Beam, Steel Joist} Design Group Selection form. All of the available groups are listed in the List of Groups list box. The groups actually in use are listed in the Design Groups list box.
Use the

buttons to move groups into and out of the Design Groups list box. Use the Ctrl and Shift keys to make multiple selections before using these button.
Use the Design menu > {Steel Frame, Concrete Frame, Composite Beam, Steel Joist} > Start Design/Check command to run the design using the specified design groups.
