Select > Intersecting Line

Use the Select menu > Select > Intersecting Line command to select objects by drawing an intersecting line through them.

To define an intersecting selection line, left click on a grid intersection or at any other location to mark the first end point. Move the mouse to the next location and left click again to draw the first line segment. Continue clicking in the active window at any number of points to define additional selection line segments that intersect the visible objects to be selected. Complete the selection lines by double clicking at the last end point. Intersecting selection lines cannot cross or intersect.

When you make a selection using the intersecting line method, you do not then remain in an intersecting line mode such that you could immediately make another intersecting line selection. Instead, you default back to a pointer/window selection mode. To cancel the selection, hit the Esc key.
