Form: Time Period Targets
For time period targets, specify a mode and a target period for that mode. Then, during design, SAP2000 automatically optimizes the structure to meet the target period using energy considerations. During the optimization process, members with large energy per unit volume are changed more than those with small energy per unit volume.
Note: Auto select section lists must be assigned to frame objects for the time period optimization to work. When SAP2000 increases or decreases a section size, it uses the available sizes in the auto select section list. If the appropriate sections are not included in the auto select lists, the displacement target may never be met, no matter how many times the analysis and design are rerun.
Use the Design menu > Cold Formed Steel Frame Design > Set Time Period Targets command to display the Time Period Targets form.
Modal Load Case. Select the modal load case for which time period targets are being set.
Add a Target.
Enter a number in the Mode Number edit box.
SAP2000 will suggest a value in the Target Period edit box. Use this target period or type a revised value in the edit box.
Click the Add button.
Modify a Target.
With the Time Period Targets form displayed, highlight the name of the target to be modified in the Modes area of the form.
Type revised value in the Target Period edit box.
Click the Modify button.
Delete a Target.
With the Time Period Targets form displayed, highlight the name of the target to be deleted in the Modes area of the form.
Click the Delete button.
Deactivate Time Period Targets check box. Check the Deactivate Time Period Targets check box to exclude the time periods from a design iteration(s) without deleting them. Uncheck the check box to include time periods in design.
