The template underground structures available using the Underground Concrete Structures form include top slabs, bottom slabs, risers, top sections, bottom sections, and 3-sided bridges for subgrade construction. Use the Underground Concrete Structures form to specify the geometry and load for each type of structure.
Click the button for the structural element of the underground structure to be defined: Top Slab, Bottom Slab, Riser, Top Section, Bottom Section or 3-Sided Bridge.
Click the {Structure Type} Properties tab and use the options to specify the geometry of the structural element, including specifying any holes in the structure or restraints, and to orient the origin of the structural element relative to the global coordinate system. The specific options available depend on the type of structure.
Click the Loading Data tab and use the options to load the structural element. The options available depend on the type of structure.
When the Top Slab, Top Section, or 3-Sided Bridge button has been clicked in Step 1, the options on the Truck Load tab can be used to specify loading resulting from a specified number of trucks on the structure.
Restraints check box. When this check box is checked, SAP2000 will assign default restraints to each point at the base of the model.
Gridlines check box. When this check box is checked, the model will display with grid lines when the OK button is clicked. Uncheck this check box to turn off the grid lines. The View menu > Show Grids command also can be used to turn the grid lines on or off after the model has been initiated.
Locate Origin button. Click this button to display the Coord System Location and Orientation form. Use the form to specify the location of the origin for the model relative to the global coordinate system.
Units drop-down list. Use the units displayed in this drop-down list or choose revised units from the drop-down list.
{Structure Type} Properties tab
Structure Properties. The options in this area of the forms are used to specify the geometry for the structure and are assumed to be self explanatory.
Hole Data
Number of Holes edit box. Specify the number of holes using this edit box. Clicking the Update button will add the specified number of holes/rows to the spreadsheet.
Spreadsheet area. Use this area of the form to specify shape (rectangular or circular) and coordinates for any holes/openings in the Top or Bottom Slab and Top or Bottom section. Click the Type cells to select the appropriate shape (i.e., Rectangular or Circular). Type coordinate values in the appropriate cells of the spreadsheet (e.g., specify the location for the center of the hole relative to X and Y coordinates; specify the size of the hole by specifying the length in the x and y directions). Click the cell in the Active column to add or exclude the hole as defined using the other columns.
Loading Data tab
Unit Weight of Soil and Depth of Overburden edit boxes. Use the defaults or specify values for the unit weight of soil on the underground structure and the depth of the overburden.
Consider Water Table check box and Unit Weight of Water and Distance Below Grade edit boxes. When this check box is checked, the loading effects of groundwater on the underground structure will be considered. Use the default value for the unit weight of the water or use the edit box to specify another value. Also indicate the depth of groundwater below grade.
Include Traffic Loading check box and Equivalent Surcharge, q edit box. When this check box is checked, traffic loading on the structure will be considered. Use the default value for equivalent surcharge or specify another value in the edit box.
LL Surcharge Pressure (Lateral) check box and Surcharge Pressure, p edit box. When this check box is checked, live load surcharge pressure will be considered. Use the default or use the edit box to specify another surcharge pressure value.
Include Top Structure Loading and Equivalent Distributed Load, w edit box. When the structure is a Bottom Slab, check this check box and use the edit box to specify an equivalent distributed load to represent the top structure loading on the bottom slab.
Include Lateral Earth Pressure check box. For all structure types except Top and Bottom Slab, check this check box to include lateral earth pressures on the structure.
Include Cover Soil Loading check box. For all structure types except Riser, check this check box to include cover soil in the load calculation.
Truck Load tab. Use the spreadsheet on this tab to specify truck loading data. First use the Number of Trucks edit box to specify the number of trucks for which loading data will be provided. Then click the Update button to add or remove rows from the spreadsheet area. Use the cells in the spreadsheet to locate the load (X Center and Y Center), specify the size (X Size and Y Size), specify the Total Load per vehicle, assign the load to a Load Case, and specify if the load is active (Yes) or not (No).
