Column/Brace Data > Local Axis

Form: Column Local Axis

Use the Assign menu > Column/Brace Data > Local Axis command to rotate the local axes of a selected column/brace object.

  1. Select one or more column/brace objects extending above or below the datum plane (not beams) and click the Assign menu > Column/Brace Data > Local Axis command to access the Column Local Axis form.

  2. Specify the angle that the local 2 and 3 axes of the selected column/brace objects should be rotated from their default directions about the local 1 axis. A positive value rotates the axes using the right-hand rule (the “thumb” is oriented along the 1 axis from End I to End J, and the default 2 axis is parallel to the global X axis).

Local axes may be viewed by checking the Local Axes check box for area objects on the Set Display Options form.

Note: End I and End J points may be identified by right clicking on a column/brace object and selecting the Geometry tab on the {Type Line} Object Information form. In general, End I is the end point with the lowest Z elevation.
