Slab Data > Line Releases

Form: Slab Line Releases

Use the Assign menu > Slab Data > Line Releases command to release the area edge adjacent to the selected line object from shear and/or moment continuity.

  1. Select one or more line objects in the datum plane and click the Assign menu > Slab Data > Line Releases command to access the Slab Line Releases form.

  2. Check the Vertical Displacement (Shear) check box or the Rotation About Line (Moment) check box or both, to release the adjacent area edges from either shear and moment transfer. This option can be specified independently for the left and right sides, as viewed looking longitudinally along the length of the line object from the Start Point(I) towards the End Point(J).

To model an expansion joint where no moment (only shear) is transferred across the joint, draw a line object to represent the joint and assign a “Rotation about Line” release.

To model a cut in the slab with no continuity, assign both the “Vertical Displacement” release and “Rotation about Line” release to the line object representing the cut. These releases do not directly affect beams.

Note: Start(I) and End(J) points may be identified by right clicking on a line object and selecting the Geometry tab on the Line Object Information form.
