Form: Area Pore Pressure Load
Pore pressure loads are used to model the drag and buoyancy effects of a fluid within a solid medium. Assign pore pressure to an area object(s) as follows:
Select one or more area objects to be assigned pore pressure load.
Click the Assign menu > Area Loads > Pore Pressure command to access the Area Pore Pressure Load form.
Load Pattern Name. Select the load pattern to which the pore pressure load is being added. Alternatively, click the + (plus symbol) beside the drop-down list to access the Define Load Patterns form; use the form to define a load pattern that will then be available in the drop-down list.
Pressure. Choose if pressure will be applied by element or by joint pattern
If by element, specify the pressure value.
If by joint pattern, choose the pattern and specify a multiplier
Options. Choose how the pore pressure load will be applied:
Add to Existing Loads: Adds the specified pore pressure to the area object. If one or more pore pressure load assignments have already been made, this option increases the load, assuming that a positive pore pressure is being specified.
Replace Existing Loads: Replaces the currently specified pore pressure load, if any, with the new pore pressure. If no assignment exists, the new assignment is still made. This is the default option.
Delete Existing Loads: Deletes any and all pore pressure assignments made to the selected area object(s). When this option is selected, the items in the Pressure area of the form are ignored when the OK button is clicked.
The window will refresh with a graphical representation of the load assigned on the members selected. If necessary, use the Assign menu > Clear Assigns command to remove the display of the assigned load.
