Define Named Sets

Forms: Define Database Table Named Sets, Virtual Work Diagram, Define Pushover Named Sets, Pushover Named Set Data, Response Spectrum Named Sets, Plot Function Trace Display Definition

Use the Define menu > Named Sets command to save the options selected on the various forms used to generate output (tables, curves, and the like) as a definition known as a Named Set. The various types of Named Sets that can be defined are generated using the follow options:

• Tables (database)

• 1. Click the Define menu > Named Sets > Tables command to display the Define Database Table Named Sets form.

  2. Use the various options on that form to define the required output. For more information about the various options and buttons on the form, see the description of the Choose Tables for form because it is similar to the Define Database Table Named Sets form.

  3. When all selections have been made, click the Save Named Set button to display the Database Table Named Sets form.

     1. Type the name of the Named Set in the DB Table Set edit box.

     2. Click the Add New DBT Set button. Alternatively, highlight a previously defined Named Set, type a new name, and then click the Change DBT Set Name button to change the name of the Named Set. Highlight a Named Set and use the Delete DBT Set button to delete the selected Named Set.

• Virtual Work

• 1. Click the Define menu > Named Sets > Virtual Work command to display the Virtual Work Diagram form.

     1. Use the various options on that form to define the required output.

     2. When all selections have been made, click the Save Named Set button to display the Virtual Work Named Sets form.

        1. Type the name of the Named Set in the Virtual Work Set edit box.

        2. Click the Add New VW Set button.  Alternatively, highlight a previously defined Named Set, type a new name, and then click the Change VW Set Name button to change the name of the Named Set. Highlight a Named Set and use the Delete VW Set button to delete the selected Named Set.

• Pushover Named Sets

Note:  A nonlinear static (pushover) analysis case must be defined in the model for this command to be available.

• 1. Click the Define menu > Named Sets > Pushover Named Sets command to display the Define Pushover Named Sets form.

  2. Choose the appropriate action:

     • Add New Named Set button. Use this button to display the Pushover Named Set Data form and add a Named Set to the model.

     • Add Copy of Named Set button. Highlight a previously defined Named Set in the Named Sets display area and click this button to display the Pushover Named Set Data form and add a copy of an existing Named Set to the model.

     • Modify/Show Named Set button. Highlight a previously defined Named Set in the Named Sets display area and click this button to display the Pushover Named Set Data form and modify the Named Set without adding a Named Set to the model.

     • Delete Named Set button. Highlight a previously defined Named Set in the Named Sets display area and click this button to delete that Named Set from the model.

The Pushover Named Set Data form has the following areas:

• Pushover Named Set Name edit box. Use the suggested default name for the Named Set or type a new one in this edit box.

• Plot Type drop-down list. Choose the type of plot for which the Named Set is being specified from this drop-down list.

• Plot Parameters drop-down list. This drop-down list will include any previously defined parameters that may have been defined using the Define menu > Pushover Parameters Sets command.

• • The Add New Parameters, Add Copy of Parameters, and Modify/Show Parameters buttons function as described in the Pushover Parameters Sets topic to add or modify the parameters used to display a pushover curve.

• Static Nonlinear Case drop-down list. This drop-down list shows any nonlinear static (pushover) analysis cases in the model that have been defined as displacement controlled and multi-step. Choose the load case to be included in the Named Set.

• Joint TH Response Spectra

Note:  A Time History function and a Time History load case must be defined in the model for this command to be available.  

• 1. Click the Define menu > Named Sets > Joint TH Response Spectra command to display the Response Spectrum Generation form.

  2. Use the various tabs and options on that form to define the required output. For more information about the tabs and options on the form, see the Response Spectrum Curves topic.

  3. When all selections have been made, click the Save Named Set button to display the Response Spectrum Named Sets form.

     1. Type the name of the Named Set in the Resp Spec Set edit box.

     2. Click the Add New RS Set button.

The Response Spectrum Named Sets form can also be used to change the name of a Named Set or to delete a named set. To change the name, highlight the Named Set in the display area, type the new name in the Resp Spec Set edit box and click the Change RS Set Name button. To delete a Named Set, highlight the Named Set in the display area and click the Delete RS Set button.

• 4. After a Named Set has been saved, click the Show Named Set button on the Response Spectrum Named Sets form to display the Select Resp Spec Set Named Set form. Select the Named Set and click the OK button to recall the setting applied to the Response Spectrum Generation form when the Named Set was defined. Choose a Time History Case and a Joint and then click the Display button on the Response Spectrum Generation form to view the Response Spectrum Curve diagram.

• Plot Function Traces

Note:  A Time History function and a Time History load case must be defined in the model for this command to be available.  

1. 1. Click the Define menu > Named Sets > Plot Function Traces command to display the Plot Function Trace Display Definition form.

   2. Use the various options on that form to define the required output. For more information about the options, display areas, drop-down lists and buttons on the form, see the Plot Functions topic.

   3. When all selections have been made, click the Save Named Set button to display the Plot Function Trace Named Sets form.

      1. Type the name of the Named Set in the Plot Function Set edit box.

      2. Click the Add New PF Set button.

The Plot Function Trace Named Sets form can also be used to change the name of a Named Set or to delete a named set. To change the name, highlight the Named Set in the display area, type the new name in the Plot Function Set edit box and click the Change PF Set Name button. To delete a Named Set, highlight the Named Set in the display area and click the Delete PF Set button.
