Joist Section Name edit box. Use the default name or specify a new name in this edit box.
Design Type options. Choose the Standard (Like the K Series Joists) option or the Envelope (Like the KCS Series Joists) option. The options available on the Joist Properties User form depends on the Design Type selected.
Material drop-down list. Choose the material property for this joist definition. Clicking the + (plus symbol) preceding this drop-down list displays the Define Materials form; use that form to add a new property or modify an existing one.
Display Color box. The color used to display objects assigned this joist property will be shown in this color. Click the box to display the Color form. Use that form to change the display color.
Standard (Like the K Series Joists)
Joist Capacity. Enter values in the Span, Total Load Capacity, Live Load for L/360 and Moment of Inertia edit boxes and click the Add button to add this capacity to the joist definition. Repeat as necessary. To modify an existing span, load, or moment of inertia, highlight the data to be changed, enter the revised value in the edit box, and click the Modify button. To delete data, highlight a row of data and click the Delete button.
Joist Parameters. Use the default for the Depth, Unit Weight, and Analysis I33, or specify you own values by typing them directly in the edit boxes.
Envelope (Like the KCS Series Joists)
Joist Capacity. Enter values in the Moment Capacity, Shear Capacity, Minimum Span, and Maximum Span edit boxes and click the Add button to add this capacity to the joist definition. .
Joist Parameters. Use the default for the Depth, Unit Weight, and Analysis I33, or specify you own values by typing them directly in the edit boxes.
Access the Joist Properties User form as follows: Click the Define menu > Section Properties > Frame Sections command or select a frame object and click the Assign menu > Frame > Frame Sections command to display the Frame Properties form. The Frame Properties form also can be accessed by clicking the + (plus) symbol that may appear next to a {Type} Section drop-down list, such as appears on the {Template} forms. Then do one of the following:
If the Import New Property button is used and a database containing the selected section type has already been accessed, a form listing the sections of that type in that database will appear; choose the sections to be imported from the list by highlighting them. Note that clicking the + (plus) symbol preceding the Materials drop-down list will access the Define Materials form, which can be used to add or modify the material definition associated with the selected section type. |
Note: When the Import New Property button is used as described above, the Joist Properties - KCS Series form will include an Open File button; click that button to access a form listing the various section database files available. After choosing a database, a form listing the individual sections within the selected database will appear. Choose the sections to be imported from the list and click the OK button to redisplay the Joist Properties - KCS Series form. If the selected type of section is not included in that database, an error message will display. Click the OK button on the error message to close it, and then click the Open File button on the Joist Properties - KCS Series form to redisplay the list of possible databases; choose another database. Repeat this process until a list of available sections of the required type is displayed.
