Form: Import Older Version Files
Model files created using SAP2000 Version 6 or 7 can be imported into SAP2000. Older version files must first be converted to version 8 format.
Click the File menu > Import > SAP2000 V6 or V7 .s2k File command to access the Import Older Version Files form.
Click the Start Translator button to begin the process of converting an older file to a version 8 file. The Translator is a separate program that will launch and run with SAP2000 open.
Click the File menu command within the Translator program and choose an option to import the appropriate file format:
Open SAP2000 V6/V7 (.SDB) File
Import SAP2000 V6/V7 Text (.s2k, .$sk) file. This text input file contains model definition data.
The Open File form will appear. Use the form to select the folder containing the file to be imported, and click on the file name.
After the model has been read into the Translator, use the File menu > Save as SAP2000 V8 (.sdb) File command on the Translator to save the model in the proper format for SAP2000 Version 8. It is a good idea to use a different file name for the version 8 file so as not to overwrite the previous file.
Click the File menu > Exit command to close the Translator and return to SAP2000.
Click the File menu > Open command in SAP2000 to access the Open File form. Use the form to select the folder containing the newly saved Version 8 .SDB file.
