Form: Import Older Version Files
Model definition data that was saved as a text input file under SAP90 can be imported into SAP2000. The text file must be fully valid for versions 5.4 or 5.5 of SAP90 to import successfully.
Note: Some data may be interpreted differently between SAP90 and SAP2000. Be sure to check the imported model carefully.
Click the File menu > Import > SAP90 Text File command to access the Import Older Version Files form.
Click the Start Translator button. The Translator is a separate program that will launch and run with SAP2000 open and will translate the SAP90 file to a SAP2000 Version 8 file that can then be read by SAP2000.
Click the File menu > Import SAP90 File command within the Translator program.
The Open File form will appear. Use the form to select the folder containing the file to be imported, and click on the desired file.
After the model has been read into the Translator, use the File menu > Save as SAP2000 V8 (.sdb) File command to save the model in the proper format for SAP2000 Version 8. It is a good idea to use a different file name for the version 8 file so as not to overwrite the previous file.
Click the File menu > Exit command to close the Translator and return to SAP2000.
Click the File menu > Open command in SAP2000 to access the Open File form. Use the form to select the folder containing the newly saved Version 8 .SDB file.
