Use the Bridge Bent Column Data form to define the property, the location, the height, angle and base support for the bridge column.
Bridge Bent Name display box. This is the name of the bridge bent, specified on the Bridge Bent Data form.
Units drop-down list. Use the displayed units or select new units from the drop-down list for use on this form.
Modify/Show Properties Frame Section Properties button and Foundation Spring Properties button.
Click the Frame Section Properties button to access the Frame Properties form and define a new property definition or review/modify a previously defined frame section for the column.
Click the Foundation Spring Properties button to access the Define Bridge Foundation Springs form to add a new foundation spring or review/revise an existing foundation spring for the column.
Column Data. Use the spreadsheet in this area of the form to specify the column definition.
Column. The numbers in this column are program assigned according to the Number of Columns specified on the Bridge Bent Data form.
Section. Click in this cell to display a drop-down list of available section definitions for the column. Use the Frame Section Properties button as necessary to review/modify an existing section definition or create a new one.
Distance. Identify the location of the column by entering the distance from the left end of the cap beam to the center of the column. Note that the bridge is always viewed from the start, looking towards the end.
Height. Specify the height of the column, measured from the top of the cap beam to the bottom of the column.
Angle. Specify the orientation of the column in degrees counterclockwise between a line parallel to the bent and the column local 2 axis.
Base Support. Specify if the base support is free, fixed or has partial fixity.
Seismic Hinge Data. Use the spreadsheet in this area of the form to specify the location of the contraflexure point and reference hinge properties for each column. This is particularly for the purpose of Bridge Seismic Design.
Column. The numbers in this column are program assigned according to the Number of Columns specified on the Bridge Bent Data form.
RH Long. and RH Trans. Specify relative heights from the bottom of the column to the point of contraflexure under longitudinal (perpendicular to the plane of the bent) and transverse (in the plane of the bent) loads, respectively. Values for each of these are unitless and must be between -1.0 and +2.0.
Hinge Prop. Top and Hinge Prop. Bottom. Click in this cell to display a drop-down list of available Hinge properties for the top and bottom of the column. The choices are "Auto," "Auto Fiber," "None," and a list of user-defined hinge properties.
Moment Releases at Top of Column. Use the cells in this area of the form to specify free, fixed, or partial fixity for the moment releases at the top of the column. If partial fixity is selected, also specify a stiffness factor.
