Use the Define Bridge Section Data - AASHTO-PCI-ASBI Standard form to define a deck section parametrically.
Cross-Section. The display area at the top of the form shows a cross section of the template deck section. This is a static display and will not update if any changes are made in the Section Data area of the form. The labels used in this graphic correspond to the parenthetic labeling for the items in the Section Data spreadsheet (e.g., Top Slab Thickness {t1}; Bottom Slab Thickness {t2}; Exterior Girder Thickness {t3} and so forth).
Sketch. The sketch to the right of the cross-cross section will update when changes are made on the form.
Note: If Section is Not Legal appears in red type, review the data in the Section Data spreadsheet area. Click the ? (question mark) to display a message box indicating the problem with the data.
Do Snap check box. When this check box is checked, the mouse pointer will snap to the joints when the mouse is moved over the sketch display. When the check box is unchecked, the mouse pointer can be moved anywhere on the display. The coordinates for the location of the pointer will display in the X and Y display boxes.
Show Section Details button. Click the Show Section Details button to display the Bridge Section Points for {Bridge Section Name} form. When that form displays, the data on that form is not editable, but the display area at the top of that form will update to reflect the changes made in the Section Data area. Note that the Show Section Details button does not appear on the form when the form is accessed from the Bridge Object Data form, as described in Method 2 below.
Modify/Show Girder Force Output Locations button. Click this button to display the Bridge Girder Force Output Location form. Use the form to specify the vertical and horizontal location for reporting force results.
AASHTO-PCI-ASBI Standard Parameters drop-down lists. The drop-down lists in this area of the form (Span Range in Meters, Depth in Millimeters and Type, Deck Width in Millimeters) provide options that comply with the AASHTO-PCI-ASBI Standard. Choose the appropriate option from the drop-down list by highlighting it.
Convert to Editable Section button. Click this button to convert the AASHTO-PCI-ASBI Standard deck section definition to an editable sloped deck section. The cells within the Section Data spreadsheet can be edited after the conversion. Note that this is a one way conversion that cannot be undone.
Modify/Show Properties Materials and Frame Sects button. Click the Materials button to access the Define Materials form. Click the Frame Sects button to access the Frame Properties form. Use the forms to define new properties, or review and modify existing properties, as necessary, for the materials and frame sections used for the deck section.
Section Data. This area of the form displays the default geometry for the deck section. Click in a cell in the spreadsheet to type a revised value for that item.
General Data
Bridge Section Name. Use the default section name or supply a revised name.
Material Property. Identifies the material property.
Total Width. Specifies the total width of the deck section.
Total Depth. Specifies the total depth of the deck section.
Exterior Girder Bottom Offset (L3). Specifies the offset for the bottom of the exterior girders.
Keep Girders Vertical When Superelevated? Use this option to specify that girders remain vertical when the bridge section is superelevated.
Slab and Girder Thickness
Top Slab Thickness (t1). Specifies the thickness of the top slab.
Bottom Slab Thickness (t2). Specifies the thickness of the bottom slab.
Exterior Girder Thickness (t3). Specifies the thickness of the exterior girder.
Fillet Horizontal Dimension Data. Use the f1 through f3 Horizontal Dimension cells to specify the horizontal dimensions of the fillet at the specified location. As noted above, the locations of the various data are shown on the cross-section at the top of the form.
Fillet Vertical Dimension Data. Use the f1 through f3 Vertical Dimension cells to specify the vertical dimensions of the fillet at the specified location. As noted above, the locations of the various data are shown on the cross-section at the top of the form.
Left Overhang Data
Left Overhang Length (L1). Specifies the entire length of the overhang on the left side of the deck section.
Right Overhang Data
Right Overhang Length (L2). Specifies the entire length of the overhang on the right side of the deck section.
Live Load Curb Locations. Use the options in this area of the form to specify the location of live load relative to the left, right, and centerline of the curb.
Insertion Point Location. Specify the X and Y offsets from the reference point to the insertion point. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
