Use the Define Bridge Section Data - Steel I Girder form to define a deck section parametrically.
Cross-Section. The display area at the top of the form shows a cross section of the template deck section. This is a static display and will not update if any changes are made in the Section Data area of the form. The labels used in this graphic correspond to the parenthetic labeling for the items in the Section Data spreadsheet (e.g., Top Slab Thickness {t1}; Concrete Haunch+Flange Thickness {t2}; Left Overhang Length {L1} and so forth).
Sketch. The sketch to the right of the cross-cross section will update when changes are made on the form.
Note: If Section is Not Legal appears in red type, review the data in the Section Data spreadsheet area. Click the ? (question mark) to display a message box indicating the problem with the data.
Do Snap check box. When this check box is checked, the mouse pointer will snap to the joints when the mouse is moved over the sketch display. When the check box is unchecked, the mouse pointer can be moved anywhere on the display. The coordinates for the location of the pointer will display in the X and Y display boxes.
Show Section Details button. Click the Show Section Details button to display the Bridge Section Points for {Bridge Section Name} form. When that form displays, the data on that form is not editable, but the display area at the top of that form will update to reflect the changes made in the Section Data area. Note that the Show Section Details button does not appear on the form when the form is accessed from the Bridge Object Data form, as described in Method 2 above.
Modify/Show Girder Force Output Locations button. Click this button to display the Bridge Girder Force Output Location form. Use the form to specify the vertical and horizontal location for reporting force results.
Modify/Show Properties Materials and Frame Sects button. Click the Materials button to access the Define Materials form. Click the Frame Sects button to access the Frame Properties form. Use the forms to define new properties, or review and modify existing properties, as necessary, for the materials and frame sections used for the deck section.
Section Data. This area of the form displays the default geometry for the deck section. Click in a cell in the spreadsheet to type a revised value for that item.
General Data
Bridge Section Name. Use the default section name or supply a revised name.
Slab Material Property. Identifies the slab material property.
Number of Girders. Specifies the number of girders. Click in the cell to type a revised value. Note that it is valid to set the number of girders equal to 1.
Total Width. Specifies the total width of the deck section. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Girder Longitudinal Layout. Specifies the longitudinal layout of the girder. Click in the cell to choose that the layout line Follow the Layout Line or As Straight Lines.
Constant Girder Spacing. Specifies the spacing for the girders. Click in the cell to choose Yes or No.
Girder Spacing Definition. If No is selected, the form changes to include cells to specify Grid Spacing Sn, where n is the number of spaces needed to separate the Number of Girders specified. Click in the cells to type in the necessary values.
Recalculate Girder Spacing button. Click this button to access the Recalculate Bridge Section Girder Spacing form. Use this form to quickly and easily calculate user-specified spacing of the girders. The spacing applied depends on a user-specified "fixed spacing," the number of girders specified, and the distance over which the girders are distributed (i.e., the Total Width minus the Left Overhang Length and the Right Overhang Length).
Constant Girder Haunch Thickness (t2). Specifies the thickness of the girder haunch. Click in the cell to choose Yes or No.
Slab Thickness.
Top Slab Thickness (t1). Specify the thickness of the top slab.
When Yes is selected for the Constant Girder Haunch Thickness, specify a single value for the Concrete Haunch+Flange Thickness (t2).
When No is selected Constant Girder Haunch Thickness, the form changes to include cells to specify the Haunch Height for the Left Exterior Girder (t2), Interior Girder 1 (t2), Interior Girder 2 (t2), and Right Exterior Girder (t2). Click in the cells to type in the necessary values.
Constant Girder Frame Section. Specifies the frame section for the girders.
Girder Section Properties.
When Yes is selected, specify a Girder Section by clicking in the cell to display a drop-down list of previously defined frame sections.
When No is selected, specify the Left Exterior Girder Section, the Interior Girder 1 Section, the Interior Girder 2 Section, and the Right Exterior Girder Section by clicking in the cell to display a drop-down list of previously defined frame sections.
Girder Modeling in Area Object Models.
When Frame is selected in the Model Girders Using Area Objects cell, no further entry is required, and the bridge section will not be displayed in the active window using area objects.
When Shell is selected in the Model Girders Using Area Objects cell, use the defaults or specify new values for the Maximum Meshed Element Width for the Girder Flange and the Maximum Meshed Element Height for the Girder Web.
When Mixed is selected in the Model Girders Using Area Objects cell, use the defaults or specify new values for the Maximum Meshed Element Heights for the Girder Web.
Fillet Horizontal Dimension Data. Use the f1and f2 Horizontal Dimension cells to specify the horizontal dimensions of the fillet at the specified location. As noted above, the locations of the various data are shown on the cross-section at the top of the form. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Left Overhang Data
Left Overhang Length (L1). Specifies the entire length of the overhang on the left side of the deck section. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Left Overhang Outer Thickness (t5). Specifies the outer thickness of the left overhang. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Right Overhang Data
Right Overhang Length (L2). Specifies the entire length of the overhang on the right side of the deck section. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Right Overhang Outer Thickness (t6). Specifies the outer thickness of the right overhang. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
Live Load Curb Locations.
Distance To Inside Edge of Left Live Load Curb. Specifies the distance form the left edge of the bridge deck to the inside edge of the left live load curb.
Distance to Inside Edge of Right Live Load Curb. Specifies the distance from the right edge of the bridge deck to the inside edge of the right live load curb.
Distance To Inside Edge of Median Live Load Curb. Specifies the distance from the left edge of the bridge deck to the centerline of the median live load curb.
Width of Median Live Load Curb. Specifies the width of the medial live load curb.
Insertion Point Location. Specify the X and Y offsets from the reference point to the insertion point. Click in the cell to type a revised value.
