Hinge assignments allow specification of the following items for each hinge:
Location and orientation
The bearing property, elevation, and rotation angle from the bridge default
The restrainer property and elevation
Diaphragm properties before and after the hinge
Initial gap openings at the top and bottom of the superstructure
Note: The elevations specified for the bearing and restrainer are Global Z coordinates.
Typically, there is one bearing and one restrainer for each girder.
Use the Bridge Object Hinge Assignment Data form to review, and if necessary modify, the hinge assignment.
Bridge Object Name display box. This name identifies the bridge object to which the bent applies.
Units drop-down list. Use the displayed units or select new units from the drop-down list.
Hinge Location and Orientation
Span drop-down list. Select the span to which the hinge is being assigned.
Hinge Direction (Bearing Angle) edit box. Use the edit box to specify the bearing angle for the hinge.
Distance from Start of Span to Hinge edit box. Measuring from the left, specify the distance from the start of the span to the location of the hinge.
Hinge Data
Hinge Bearing Property drop-down list. Use the drop-down list to specify a bearing property for the hinge. The None option specifies that no bearing for the hinge applies. Click the plus symbol (+) will access the Define Bridge Bearings form, which can be used to add or modify a bearing property using the Bridge Bearing Data form.
Hinge Bearing Elevation (At Layout Line, Global Z) edit box. Specify the bearing elevation at the layout line in the Global Z direction. If the hinge is added to a bridge superstructure, the hinge bearing elevation can be overwritten on a girder-by-girder basis by clicking the Girder-By-Girder Overwrites Modify/Show Overwrites button near the bottom of this form.
Hinge Bearing Rotation Angle from Bridge Default edit box. Use this edit box to specify a rotation angle from the default hinge bearing (i.e., the layout line).
Restrainer Property at Bearing drop-down list. Use the drop-down list to specify a restrainer property definition. The None option specifies that no restrainer be modeled at this location. Clicking the plus symbol (+) will access the Define Bridge Restrainers form, which can be used to add or modify a restrainer property using the Bridge Restrainer Data form.
Superstructure Data at Hinge
Diaphragm Property Before Hinge and Diaphragm Property After Hinge drop-down lists. Use these drop-down lists to specify a diaphragm property before and after the hinge, respectively. The None option specifies that no diaphragm will be modeled at that location. Clicking the plus symbol (+) will access the Define Bridge Diaphragm Properties form, which can be used to add or modify a diaphragm property using the Bridge Diaphragm Property form.
Restrainer Property at Superstructure drop-down list. Use the drop-down list to specify a restrainer property at the superstructure of the bridge. The None option specifies that no restrainer property will be modeled at the superstructure. Clicking the plus symbol (+) will access the Define Bridge Restrainers form, which can be used to add or modify a restrainer property using the Bridge Restrainer Data form.
Restrainer Elevation (At Layout Line, Global Z) edit box. Specify the restrainer elevation at the layout line in the Global Z direction. If the restrainer is added to a bridge superstructure, the restrainer elevation can be overwritten on a girder-by-girder basis by clicking the Girder-By-Girder Overwrites Modify/Show Overwrites button near the bottom of this form.
Girder-By-Girder Overwrites Modify/Show Overwrites button. Click this button to access the Girder-By-Girder Bridge Hinge Overwrites form. That form can be used to access the Hinge Overwrite Data form; this form can be used to overwrite the bearing property and restrainer property at a specified girder number. Girders are numbered left to right. Note that the bridge is always assumed to be viewed as if standing at the start and looking towards the end of the bridge.
