Use the Built Up I Section with Cover Plates form to add a definition for a built up I section with cover plate.
Section Name
When the Add New Property button is used: SAP2000 will suggest a default section name (FSEC1, FSEC2 and so forth). Change the name as required.
When the Modify/Show button is used: The name that appears in the Section Name item is the name of the section selected in the Properties area of the form before the Modify/Show button was clicked.
I-Section Data
Section drop-down list. Choose the I section from the drop-down list of available sections.
Overwrite Top Flange Fy, Overwrite Web Fy, and Overwrite Bottom Flange Fy check boxes and edit boxes. As appropriate, check the Overwrite Top Flange Fy, Overwrite Web Fy and Overwrite Bottom Flange Fy check boxes and specify a value in the associated edit box for the steel yield stress for the top flange, web, and bottom flange. The values entered will overwrite the defaults provided by the program.
Top Cover Plate Data
Include Top Cover Plate check box. Check this check box to include a top cover plate in the section definition.
Material drop-down list. Use this drop-down list of previously defined steel material properties to specify the material for this cover plate definition. Clicking the + (plus) symbol preceding this drop-down list will access the Define Materials form, which can be used to add a new material definition or modify an existing one.
Width and Thickness edit boxes. Use these edit boxes to change the default lengths specified for the width and thickness of the cover plate.
Bottom Cover Plate Data
Include Bottom Cover Plate check box. Check this check box to include a bottom cover plate in the section definition.
Material drop-down list. Use this drop-down list of previously defined steel material properties to specify the material for this cover plate definition. Clicking the + (plus) symbol preceding this drop-down list will access the Define Materials form, which can be used to add a new material definition or modify an existing one.
Width and Thickness edit boxes. Use these edit boxes to change the default lengths specified for the width and thickness of the cover plate.
Note: The "graph paper" type Section display area on the right of the form will update to show the addition of the top and bottom cover plates.
Display Color The color that will be used to display the section on-screen in the model.
Click on the "Display Color" text or the small sample square of the color to bring up the Color form.
Select the desired new color on the Color form and click the OK button.
Use the View menu > Set View Options command and check the Sections check box in the "View by Colors of:" area to view the sections with the assigned color.
Section Properties button. Click this button to display the Property Data form and view the frame section properties. The section properties are defaults and provided here for informational purposes only.
Set Time Dependent Properties button. Click this button to access the Time Dependent Properties form.
Set Modifiers button. Click this button to display the Frame Property/Stiffness Modification Factors form. Use that form to specify the desired modification factors. Note that modification factor can be assigned here as well as directly to line objects, as explained in Frame - Property Modifiers.
Modify/Show Notes button. Click this button to access the Frame Section Property Notes form and add section notes to the model file.
Access the Built Up I Section with Cover Plates form as follows: Click the Define menu > Section Properties > Frame Sections command or select a frame object and click the Assign menu > Frame > Frame Sections command to display the Frame Properties form. The Frame Properties form also can be accessed by clicking the + (plus) symbol that may appear next to a {Type} Section drop-down list, such as appears on the {Template} forms.
