SAP2000 has two modes of mouse-cursor operation in the active window: Draw mode and Select mode. The program can only be in one mode at a time. In Draw mode, the mouse cursor is usually used to draw (create) or modify objects in the model. Many types of Draw modes are available, depending on the type of action to be performed. In Draw mode, actions are performed directly on the objects using the mouse. Draw mode can also be used to create nonstructural items, such as developed elevations and reference points. When the model is locked, the Draw mode is not available.
Draw mode is the default mode when a new model is started. The Draw mode allows for drawing new members and editing one object or a joint at a time. Set Draw mode by choosing one of the drawing commands from the Draw menu, or the corresponding toolbar button.
Note 3D solid objects are not created using any of the Draw menu commands. They are created by extruding area objects.
