Bent assignments allow specification of the following items for each bent:
Support name
Superstructure assignments, including diaphragm property. For bents at superstructure discontinuities, a diaphragm property and steel U girder internal diaphragm can be specified on each side of the discontinuity, as well as a restrainer property, restrainer vertical elevation and initial gap openings at the top and bottom of the superstructure
Bent property and bent orientation
Vertical elevation and horizontal location of the bent
The bearing property, elevation, location and rotation angle from the bridge default. For bents at superstructure discontinuities, bearings are separately specified on each side of the discontinuity.
Note: The elevation specified for the restrainer, bent and the bearings are Global Z coordinates.
Use the Bridge Object Bent Definition form to review, and if necessary modify, the bent assignments.
Bridge Object Name display box. This name identifies the bridge object to which the bent applies.
Units drop-down list. Use the displayed units or select new units from the drop-down list for use on this form.
Specify Bent Considered
Bent Is at the End of This Span drop-down list. Specify the location of the bent by selecting the span that has this bent at its end. Note that the bridge is always viewed as if standing at the start of the bridge (the left) looking towards the end of the bridge (the right).
Bent Is at This Station display box. This display box shows the location of the bent based on the station location specified as part of the Bridge Object Span Definition.
Support Name edit box. Specify the support name at the bent.
Superstructure Assignment
Superstructure Continuity Condition display box. This display box shows if the superstructure is continuous or discontinuous as specified on the Bridge Bent Data form.
Mesh Superstructure to Match Bent Bearing drop-down list. Choose Yes or No to mesh the superstructure or to not mesh the superstructure to match the bent bearing. This is not editable when the bent property is a double-bearing bent type or the bearing assignment option is General.
Diaphragm Property Before and Diaphragm Property After drop-down lists. Use these drop-down lists to specify the diaphragm property before and after the bent, as appropriate. The None option means that no diaphragm will be applied at that location. Click the plus symbol (+) to access the Define Bridge Diaphragm Properties form, which can be used to add a new definition or modify an existing definition using the Bridge Diaphragm Property form.
Steel U Girder Diaphragm Before and Steel U Girder Diaphragm After drop-down lists. This is only for steel U girder internal diaphragms.
Restrainer Property drop-down list. This drop-down list is added to the form if the Superstructure Continuity Condition is Discontinuous. Use these drop-down lists to specify a restrainer property. The None option means that no restrainer will be applied to the superstructure. Click the plus symbol (+) to access the Define Bridge Restrainers form, which can be used to add a new definition or modify an existing definition using the Bridge Restrainer Data form
Restrainer Elevation (At Layout Line, Global Z) edit box. This drop-down list is added to the form if the Superstructure Continuity Condition is Discontinuous. Use this edit box to specify the elevation of the restrainer at the layout line in the Global Z direction. This value can be overwritten on a girder-by-girder basis using the Bent Superstructure Overwrite Data form (see the next bullet)
Girder-by-Girder Overwrites Superstructure Restrainer Overwrites Modify/Show Overwrites button. This button is added to the form if the Superstructure Continuity Condition is Discontinuous. Click this button to access the Girder-by-Girder Bridge Bent Overwrites (Superstructure) form. Use that form to add a new overwrite definition, or modify an existing one, using the Bent Superstructure Overwrite Data form.
Bent Assignment
Bent Property drop-down list. Use this drop-down list to specify the bent property. The None option means that no bent will be applied on the span specified in the Bent Is At the End of This Span drop-down list.. Click the plus symbol (+) to access the Define Bridge Bents form, which can be used to add a new definition or modify an existing definition using the Bridge Bent Data form.
Bent Direction (Bearing Angle) edit box. Use this edit box to specify the angle of change in the bent bearing from its original default position.
Bent Location
Elevation (Global Z) edit box. Use this edit box to specify the elevation of the bent at the layout line in the Global Z direction.
Horizontal Offset edit box. Use this edit box to specify the offset of the bent from the layout line.
Bearing Assignment options. These options are available when the Superstructure Continuity Condition is Continuous.
Girder-by-Girder option. Select this option to have the program generate bearings under each girder.
General option. Select this option to specify the number of bearings and the bearing locations. This is only available for concrete box-girder bridge section types.
Bearing Property drop-down list. Use this drop-down list to specify the bearing property. Click the plus symbol (+) to access the Define Bridge Bearings form, which can be used to add a new definition or modify an existing definition using the Bridge Bearing Data form.
Restrainer Property at Bearing drop-down list. Use this drop-down list to specify a restrainer property at the bearing. The None option means that no restrainer will be applied at the bearing. Click the plus symbol (+) to access the Define Bridge Restrainers form, which can be used to add a new definition or modify an existing definition using the Bridge Restrainer Data form
Elevation (At Layout Line, Global Z) edit box). Use this edit box to specify the elevation of the bearing at the layout line in the Global Z direction. This value can be overwritten on a girder-by-girder basis using the Bent Bearing Overwrite Data form (see subsequent bullet below).
